Couples Class for Childbirth

  • Austin Prenatal Yoga 2700 W Anderson Ln Ste 320 Austin, Texas, 78757 USA (map)

Cost: $95

Location: INSIDE Heartsong Music 2700 W. Anderson Lane, Suite 320 Austin 78757

About the Class: This will be a fun, bonding experience for you and your birth partner and you will both take away many practical pain coping tools for labor and birth!

This 3 hour class will present a realistic approach on how to work with the intensity and hard work of labor & birth.  The stages of labor & birth will be discussed and what you and your partner can 'do' during each phase. You will learn the following pain coping strategies:

- Yoga poses and labor & birth positions
- Breathing techniques
- Birth ball exercises
- Relaxation techniques

Each couple will leave with many invaluable hand-outs.  I will present you with a centering meditation to connect with the baby and a guided visualization to help both of you prepare for your ideal, most wonderful, blessed birth.

There will be a lot of practical hands-on practice.  No yoga experience is necessary.  It is recommended couples attend this class in the third trimester of their pregnancy, but couples in any stage of pregnancy are welcome any time.  This class is great for first time parents wanting to add yoga wisdom to their other childbirth prep classes, as well, as current parents wanting a refresher class.

About the Teacher: Lisa Young (RYT, MA) has been a certified yoga instructor for over 13 years, and a certified prenatal yoga teacher for over 6 years, teaching to women and families in the Austin area.  She also trained and received her certificate to be a Doula, and holds a Masters in Counseling Psychology.  She is the winner of the 2013 Austin Birth Awards for Best 'Prenatal Yoga Instructor'. Lisa has 2 children whom she has given birth to naturally: the 1st child in a birthing center and the 2nd at home.  She attributes her fast, smooth, easy births to her yoga tools and her ongoing yoga practice.

Past Testimonials:

Been meaning to write you to share the great news of the arrival of Emma Mai , born December 1 - she was 8 lbs 7 ozs, 21 inches long.  Despite what the doctor said, she came pretty close to her due date :) .  Somehow, I was able to pull off the labor and delivery without any interventions.  Actually, I attribute being able to pull it off thanks to yoga (and your workshop!!) and Craig made a pretty good doula as well!!  All of the breathing and relaxation exercises helped during contractions and, while I can't say there's much you can do to prepare for the pushing part of it, we got through that as well.

Anyway, thanks for all your help and encouragement - I'm looking forward to getting back into yoga in a month or so.
